Compress JPG — Reduce JPG File Size in Your Browser

Open the converter

This JPG compressor reduces JPG file size by re-encoding at a lower quality and optionally downscaling, fully in your browser. The result is a smaller JPG that still looks good — perfect for email attachments, web pages, and social uploads.

JPG file size is dominated by two things: pixel dimensions and encoder quality. A photo straight from a modern phone is 12+ megapixels and 4–8MB; the same image at 1600px and 75% quality is often well under 500KB with no visible difference at normal viewing sizes. This tool gives you both knobs.

Drop one or more JPG files in, pick a target quality (75% is a good default — visibly identical at sensible sizes), optionally cap the longest edge to downscale very large images, and the tool re-encodes locally in your browser. The result panel shows the original vs. compressed size and the percentage saved.

Multi-file batches are returned as a ZIP. Because everything is browser-local, you can compress private photos — IDs, medical images, financial documents — without uploading to a third-party service.

Frequently asked questions

Are my JPGs uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs inside your browser using canvas re-encoding. Nothing is sent to a server.

What quality should I pick?

75% is a strong default — visibly identical to the original at normal sizes, typically 50–70% file size reduction. Push to 85–90% for archival; drop to 60% when size dominates.

Does downscaling help?

A lot. A 4032×3024 phone photo capped at 1600px shrinks roughly 6x in pixel count, which is multiplied by the quality reduction.

Can I compress many JPGs at once?

Yes. Drop a batch and the tool returns a ZIP with all compressed JPGs.

Will the JPG lose detail?

JPG is lossy, so yes — at lower qualities you may see soft edges or block artifacts. At 75% and above, most people cannot see the difference.
